QUESTIONS

We specialize in silverplate and sterling but also buy pewter, copper, brass, and gold fill. If you include metals such as lead, zinc, stainless steel, and aluminum in your box you will be paid market prices but we ask that you do not intentionally ship these items to us, because the money you will make is far less than the cost of shipping. The one metal we do not purchase is Iron. We can recycle it for you, but do not pay for it at this time. It is important to check all of your pieces with a magnet before shipping. If something sticks to a magnet, it contains Iron and will appear on your receipt as “NO VALUE.”

The majority of what we purchase is shredded into small pieces and sent through a chemical refining process that separates mixed materials into purer forms of metal that can be made into new things, from industrial machines to fine art. Every pound of metal you recycle and return to the global supply chain is a pound of metal that does not need to be mined. This not only helps many fragile ecosystems around the world from being disturbed, but also keeps perfectly reusable material out of landfills. To the best of our ability, we do not destroy items that have special historical or aesthetic significance, or items that have potential for reuse. For example, a percentage of our silverware goes to artists and crafters who turn it into jewelry. It is very likely your grandmother’s old spoon could go on to have a new life as someone’s favorite ring or necklace!
The customer pays for shipping but we can help! If you have over 20 pounds of material, or are sending higher value items made of sterling, gold, etc. please contact us for a discounted UPS label. If we make the label for you, it is typically about 40%-50% less than what you would pay at the counter. The cost of shipping is simply deducted from your final payment. All we need from you is a return address and the weight and dimensions of your box, which you can email to [email protected]. Our friendly staff will respond to you quickly. We recommend keeping your boxes under 50 pounds, because abnormally large, heavy boxes are more likely to rip open during transport. If you need guidance while preparing your shipment do not hesitate to contact us.
Probably not. Shipping costs are increasingly high and will most likely not be covered by your payment from us if you only mail in a few pieces. We will process and purchase shipments of any size but if you only have a few pounds, it is most likely not in your best financial interest to ship to us unless you are sending higher value materials such as sterling or gold. We recommend donating your items to a thrift shop or dropping them off at a local scrap yard. Please don’t throw them in the trash!

No, you don’t need to polish or clean your items. Everything be evaluated based on weight.

We purchase items by material and weight, not by the individual worth of a piece as a collectible or antique. For example if you send a mixture of silverplate, brass, pewter, and sterling, your items will be sorted by our specialists, weighed by category, and you will be paid by the pound for exactly what you have. Our prices for each category change according to the daily metals market so while we do our best to keep them updated, we cannot guarantee the price you were quoted on Monday is the exact price you will receive on Friday. It is very rare for pricing to change dramatically between the time you mail your items and the time we pay you, but it is always possible. And many times this will work out in your favor! Our goal is always to pay you the best price we can at the time your items arrive.
Our metal specialists work hard to make sure you are paid fairly for exactly what you send in. We are not able to return items after completing our assessment but we CAN help you determine what you have in advance of your shipment so there are no unpleasant surprises. While there are some things we do need to test in person, we are happy to share our knowledge and walk you through the basics of what makes sense to mail and what does not. We are 100% upfront with our pricing and are committed to transparent and ethical transactions with our customers. If you are unsure about what you have and what we will pay for it, feel free to call or email. We are here to help!
Yes absolutely! It is helpful if you have sterling or gold to wrap and label them separately so our specialists know to take a more careful look.

Once your box arrives at our warehouse, we process it and issue payment within 1-3 business days. You will receive email notification that your check has been mailed or PayPal transfer sent, along with an itemized receipt.
